The Guyana Steering Committee of the European Union (EU) funded Sustainable Forest Livelihoods (SFL) project has been officially established today, January 25, 2024.
The Steering Committee is the advisory authority and is responsible for providing strategic guidance and support to SFL. The Steering Committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Guyana Forestry Commission, National Toshaos Council, EU Delegation to Guyana, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and WWF – Guianas.
The SFL is a four-year initiative (2023 – 2027) in both Guyana and Suriname. In Guyana, the 5-million-euro project has the objective to maintain healthy forests and natural resources by strengthening sustainable local community development and promoting forest-based livelihood opportunities.
SFL is funded by the European Union, implemented by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and executed by WWF-Guianas.
