On March 19th, we organised the ๐˜€๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฎ ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—บ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด for Guides of Commewijne and the United Tourguides Suriname Organization (UTGS) tour guides. This training was held in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Division (NCD), the Commissariaat Commewijne, Plantage Resort Frederiksdorp United Tourguides Suriname Organization (UTGS) and WWF-Guianas.

This year there were in total 38 tourguides trained. The purpose of the training is to ensure that the tours to Braamspunt , in which tourists visit this sea turtle nesting beach, are following the rules that are in place to avoid disturbance to our sea turtles. Sustainable tourism can contribute to better protection of our vulnerable turtle species which makes the cooperation between the tour-guides, the government departments involved and WWF-Guianas very valuable. Similar to 2022 and 2023, the training was hosted at Plantage Resort Frederiksdorp.

This year the participants put in a small co-payment to attend the training and upon completion will receive a badge demonstrating that they are certified to provide sea turtle tours for 2 years to Braamspunt.
