EARTH HOUR 2021

27 MARCH 8:30PM TOGETHER FOR CLEAN RIVERS #SWEETWATER #SWITIWATRA #CONNECT2EARTH

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN EARTH HOUR!

This year Earth Hour went virtual for the first time ever. People have shared their voice for nature online and participated in Earth Hour at home. We have also seen some major organizations supporting Earth Hour.

In Suriname, the hotels Courtyard by Marriott and Torarica joined Earth Hour, as wel as the large companies Surinaamse Brouwerij and HEM Suriname. Also, the ministries of Public Health and Environment voiced their support of participation in Earth Hour.

Our focus for this year’s event in the Guianas (Guyana and Suriname) was the protection of rivers from pollution. In Suriname the campaign #SwitiWatra has been launched. Go to the campaign website to learn more and to give your support for clean rivers without draggers. Or skalians as they are called in Suriname.

Missed the Earth Hour TV shows in Suriname and Guyana? You can still view them on our YouTube channel.

Earth Hour’s lights out reminded us again this year that even small actions can make a big difference. When we make changes in our own lives, and when we share that with others, we also inspire the people around us to change – and we help grow a movement that businesses and governments can’t ignore.

Join the movement!

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE AS AN ORGANIZATION

Your organization can participate in Earth Hour and show that it cares about nature. Let us know how you have participated in Earth Hour and we will make mention of it on our website, our Facebook account and in the press release that WWF-Guianas sends after Earth Hour.

What can your organization do?

  • Most importantly, turn off the indoorand outdoor lighting of your building, provided that safety is not compromised . The extinguishing of the lights is the global symbol of Earth Hour, in which millions of people, organizations and famous structures participate.

  • Show on your social media that you support Earth Hour and tell us why you're participating. We have put together a handy toolkit for you with materials that you can easily use on your social media, which you can downloadvia this link

  • Enthuse your employees to participate in Earth Hour. This can be done by hanging an Earth Hour poster or postinga message on intranet. Posters are in the toolkit.

  • Add the official Earth Hour logo to your website or the profile of your social media accounts. You can find it in the toolkit
