Meet our new Country Director

We are pleased to announce that Johanna Langbroek will begin her role as WWF-Guianas Country Director on March 1.
Johanna brings a wealth of experience and a diverse background to this role. She is a Dutch Human Geographer and Economist who earned her degrees at the University of Amsterdam. Over the past 25 years, she has lived and worked abroad, including 12 years in Latin America. She has led teams and initiatives across Latin America, as well as in the Caribbean, Central Asia, and beyond.
Her previous roles include serving as Country Director for Plan International in Nicaragua and Regional Director for KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation in Central Asia and Latin America. In these positions, she led innovative programs in Nicaragua, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, working on collaborative solutions to complex challenges. During her time at ICCO, a Dutch NGO (Interchurch Organization for International Cooperation), she managed portfolios for Suriname, focusing on sustainable forest management and income-generating activities. These experiences deepened her appreciation for the beauty of the Guianas and its people, which motivated her to take on this role.
Johanna is passionate about environmental sustainability, justice, human rights, and economic opportunities for vulnerable communities. Her hands-on work in Colombia, Bolivia, and Nicaragua has given her valuable insights into cross-sector collaboration and inclusive change.
To end on a personal note, Johanna enjoys dancing, kayaking, tennis, and gardening. She looks forward to immersing herself in the Guianas and connecting with the vibrant communities of Suriname and Guyana.

We zijn verheugd aan te kondigen dat Johanna Langbroek per 1 maart de functie van Country Director bij WWF-Guianas zal vervullen.
Johanna brengt een schat aan ervaring en een diverse achtergrond mee naar deze rol. Ze is een Nederlandse sociaal geograaf en econoom en heeft haar diploma's behaald aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. In de afgelopen 25 jaar heeft ze in het buitenland gewoond en gewerkt, waaronder 12 jaar in Latijns-Amerika. Ze heeft teams en initiatieven geleid in Latijns-Amerika, evenals in het Caribisch gebied, Centraal-Azië en daarbuiten.
Haar eerdere functies was ze onder andere Country Director voor Plan International in Nicaragua en Regional Director voor de KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation in Centraal-Azië en Latijns-Amerika. In deze functies leidde Johanna innovatieve programma's in Nicaragua, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela en de Dominicaanse Republiek, waarbij ze samenwerkte aan gezamenlijke oplossingen voor complexe vraagstukken. Tijdens haar tijd bij ICCO, een Nederlandse NGO (Interkerkelijke Organisatie voor Internationale Samenwerking), beheerde ze portefeuilles voor Suriname, met focus op duurzaam bosbeheer en inkomens genererende activiteiten. Deze ervaringen hebben haar waardering voor de schoonheid van de Guianas en haar bevolking verdiept en vormden een motivatie om deze rol op zich te nemen.
Johanna is gepassioneerd over milieubehoud, duurzaamheid, gerechtigheid, mensenrechten en economische kansen voor kwetsbare gemeenschappen. Haar praktische werk in Colombia, Bolivia en Nicaragua heeft haar waardevolle inzichten gegeven in samenwerking tussen verschillende sectoren en inclusieve verandering.
Op persoonlijk vlak houdt Johanna van dansen, kajakken, tennis en tuinieren. Ze kijkt ernaar uit om zich onder te dompelen in de Guianas en contact te maken met de levendige gemeenschappen van Suriname en Guyana.
