EARTH HOUR GUYANA

Earth Hour 2026 will spotlight the importance of safeguarding Guyana’s rich marine biodiversity.

Wildlife Needs Us Now! Join us, switch off for nature, and take a stance for our marine wildlife.

Guyana's marine biodiversity is a treasure trove of life that plays a crucial role in supporting not only the ocean's ecological balance but also the nation's fisheries sector.

Earth Hour 2026 aims to inspire individuals to see fish and marine life as integral components of Guyana’s natural heritage and will emphasise the necessity of conserving these shared resources for both ecological health and community well-being. It’s imperative to use this opportunity to change the perception that fish are not merely a source of food for us, but also as wildlife that other marine species depend on for their own survival. This shared resource needs protection.

By promoting the value-rich biodiversity and raising awareness of the importance of safeguarding these marine species, we can ensure the sustainability of fisheries and maintain healthy fish stocks for future generations.

As we gather under the night sky, counting down to the lights off moment, we will hear the wonderful voices and sounds of local singers, dances and poetry, with brief statements and presentations from key organizations, telling a story about Guyana’s marine space. Earth Hour represents more than just an hour without lights; it embodies hope, unity, and proactive change

Earth Hour represents more than just an hour without lights; it embodies hope, unity, and proactive change. By participating in Guyana, we ignite a deeper awareness of our collective responsibility to protect our planet together!

Because wildlife needs us.

Wildlife needs our protection of forests and oceans.
Wildlife needs sustainable choices in how we produce and consume.
Wildlife needs strong legislation that protects habitats.
Wildlife needs communities that take care of nature.

And we need wildlife.

We need healthy ecosystems to combat climate change.
We need biodiversity to build resilience.
We need nature for our well-being, our identity and our survival.

This Earth Hour, let's not only turn off the lights, but also ignite the fire of engagement. Plant a tree. Reduce waste. Support nature conservation. Teach our children the value of nature. Choose sustainable energy. Protect what makes Suriname unique.

When we protect wildlife, we protect ourselves.
