In a significant move to strengthen Suriname’s fisheries sector, WWF-Guianas officially presented a set of policy briefs to one of the national partners, the Ministry of Oil, Gas, and Environment (OGM) today. This occasion marks an important milestone in the closing of the second phase of the AFD-funded BIODEV 2030 Project, which aims to promote the sustainable management of marine resources through policy reform.

The policy briefs are designed to provide essential guidance on best practices for sustainable fisheries management, ensuring that both economic development and environmental conservation can thrive together.

If these recommendations from the policy briefs are implemented, they will help achieve long-term sustainability in Suriname's fisheries sectors, while safeguarding Suriname’s rich marine ecosystems and enhancing the livelihoods of local fishing communities.

The documents were presented to His Excellency Patrick Brunings, Minister of Oil, Gas, and Environment, by Ms Soraya Wijntuin, Manager of Better Production in Natural Resources at WWF-Guianas.
