In a small ceremony, WWF-Guianas and Stichting Productieve Werkeenheden (SPWE/RACO) signed an agreement on September 1, as part of the Sustainable Forest Livelihoods Programme, which is financed by the European Union and implemented by AFD in collaboration with WWF-Guianas.
Under this agreement, SPWE will support existing and potential entrepreneurs within forest-based communities of Para and Boven Suriname, involved in agroforestry or in non-timber forest product harvesting, to strengthen their business.
The work will include a hands-on, tailor-made coaching programme in business plan development, business accounting and administration, mobilising financial resources, strengthening and establishing cooperatives, marketing, and finding access to markets.
Work will be carried out in at least four villages where Tropenbos Suriname (TBS) and the Centre for Agricultural Research in Suriname (CELOS) support will be implemented: Goejaba, Gran Tatai, Nieuw Aurora and Pikin Slee for Boven Suriname, Phillipusdorp and Cassipora for the Para district. The support in business development for Goejaba will be continued as well.
