Why are elephants so important?

They're all correct! Elephants uproots trees, transforming savannas into grasslands, and create clearings and gaps int he canopy that encourage tree regeneration. Via elephants' digestive tracts, seeds are dispersed in large amounts over great distances.

How are baby elephants and baby humans alike?

It's true! Baby elephants lose their first teeth and tusks just like we lose baby (or milk) teeth! Baby elephants have been known to suck their trunks just as human babies suck on their thumbs! How adorable is that?!

What is the biggest threat to elephant populations today?

Unfortunately elephant populations are threatened by all of the above. Rampant poaching to meet growing demand for ivory and elephant skin, habitat loss due to expanding human settlements, and changing access to fresh water are all causes for concern.

How heavy are newborn elephants?

Newborn elephants (calves) can weigh up to 120 kg (250 lb)! That's after they've been through a gestation period of 22 months!
